IPC for improved reliability and competitiveness

IPC is a global association that continually develops and publishes the world’s most widely used quality standards for electronic production of bare boards plus circuit board assembling and soldering.

Tallinn Polytechnic School (Tallinna Polütehnikum), IPC’s Training Center in Estonia, organizes and invites you to an informative and entertaining seminar in Estonia held by Mr. Lars Wallin, IPC’s Europe Representative. The seminar has been very much appreciated by thousands of attendees active in the electronic hardware production chain in many European countries. The presentations explain how IPC standards are developed and guide you through the whole production chain and show how repair costs can be reduced and quality can be improved with the appropriate IPC standards for each stage in production.

With the introduction of EU’s RoHS directives, the conditions for the whole chain of electronic production from design via CAD and bare boards to circuit board assembly have changed in many respects. The seminar presents suggestions in the form of IPC standards and training which can improve reliability of lead-free circuit board assemblies and shows what the economic consequences can be when quality and yield decreases.

The seminar gives interesting and useful information for everyone working within electronic production such as bare board and circuit board manufacturers, electronic designers, production managers and technicians, purchasers, quality engineers, etc.

• Survey of different types of hardware problems, which can occur in the production chain of a PCB aimed for electronic products.

Welcome to the electronic designers and CAD world.

• Advice to project leaders, product owners and electronic designers before they start to develop a new electronic product.

• Basic Data and Specifications for CAD from the electronic designer?

Welcome to the world of Bare Board manufacturing.

• Manufacturing of a 2-Layer bare board.

• Manufacturing of a 4-Layer bare board.

• Different surface finishes and its advantages and disadvantages?

• IPC-6011, IPC-6012C, J-STD-003C and IPC-A-600H will be discussed lus others relevant IPC standards for bare board manufacturing.


Block 3: 14.00-15.30 (Including one coffee break) 

Welcome to the world of Assembling and Soldering.

• To think about with a lead free process.

• J-STD-001F, IPC-610F, IPC-7711/21B and IPC-620B will be discussed plus others relevant IPC standards for solder paste application, assembling and soldering.

• What does it cost to produce a prototype comparing with a large volume of PCBA?

• What does it cost to scrap and repair?

• Examples from the real electronics world.


Block 4: 15.30-16.30 

Welcome to the world of Cleaning and Conformal Coating.

• Why Cleaning, Measuring and Lacking?

• Is Clean really Clean?

• Cleaning requirements?

• Different methods of cleaning PCBAs?

• IPC-CH-65B, IPC-CC-830B and IPC-HDBK-830 will be discussed plus other relevant IPC standards for cleaning and conformal coating.

Block 1: 09.00-11.30 (Including one coffee break) 

Being able to design and produce a high-tech PCBs according to IPC Class 3 in volumes larger than 100 pieces requires control over countless factors. In addition, knowledge of more than 70 IPC Standards is critical. The combination of this two factors is demanding but ultimately positive for return of investments. This workshop will give the attendees the tools to meet both the external expectations and the internal yield goals for IPC Class 3.


Demands for producing IPC Class 3 through the entire electronic chain.


The Workshop will cover the following areas: 

• What shall the Project leaders and the Electronic design think about and specify to be able to fulfill the demands for IPC Class 3?

• Which IPC standards are helpful?

• Needs for the CAD department to do so the bare board manufactures will be able to produce IPC Class 3?

• Which IPC standards are helpful?

• How can the purchasing process secure that the delivered bare boards are produced according to IPC Class 3?

• Which IPC standards are helpful?

• What shall the assembly and soldering departments do to fulfill the demands so the solder joints will be according to IPC Class 3?

• Which IPC standards are helpful?

In this workshop, we will study two real-life cases and use various methodes for analyzing the problem and recommended actions to ensure it will not reoccur.

 

Why Aren´t My Solder Joints Perfect?

The Workshop will cover the following areas: 

The cause of a bad solder joint can be hard to find!

Chase number 1:

• The solder doesn’t fill the plated through holes according to IPC Class 3.
